Welcome to Not Your Mother’s Piano Studio!

Welcome!! I'm Jess :) and it's an absolute joy to have you step into my world. Not only have I been teaching for well over a decade, but I have built my studio from the ground up 3 times--in different US states from coast to coast.

On this digital sanctuary, known as NYM (Not Your Mother's) Piano Studio, you'll discover a growing compilation of the BEST I've found from years of deep diving into piano pedagogy. These gems are here to empower teachers like you, revealing the multi-value group lessons, showing you how to weave simplicity and fun into your teachings without missing out on precious family moments. My hope is that you will find something here that is valuable to you, your family, and your piano studio.

Welcome to the Ultimate Resource Library

For years I have been on the search for resources that will best serve my students and I. From podcast binging, webinar trainings, and involvement in the piano teaching community, I have an ongoing collection of resources that will:

  • Bring your piano lessons back to life

  • Simplify your lesson preparation without sacrificing quality or fun

  • Help you launch your very first group piano program

  • Create efficiency and professionalism in your studio through policy curation

  • Save you time and energy by streamlining those annoying admin tasks

  • Help you reframe your mindset to make the most out of your piano teaching career

I call it the "ultimate resource library" because many of these resources originate from other incredible creators, combined with my own products and ideas. So if YOU have a resource that you feel belongs in this library--don't be shy! Send me a DM on my IG here.

Group Piano Programming

I was well into my piano teaching career before I ever considered teaching group piano. This was never an option to me as a student myself, so I never heard about it until the last several years! And I'm not going to lie--at first, it was a hard NO for me.

But as I was shown the tools and resources out there to make group lessons successful, my entire perspective changed. I also increased my monthly income by 25% by only adding 4 group piano classes.

I wrote an entire article on whether group piano is the right fit for you! You can read it here. Or you can visit my group piano page for insights on how to start your group piano program, or group game ideas!

Advocate for Simplicity & Balance without Compromising Growth

In my early motherhood days, I grappled with the all-too-familiar challenge of striking that elusive work-life balance. The struggle was real – wanting to earn, contribute, and grow professionally, yet not willing to sacrifice countless hours away from my little ones or becoming a slave to my profession.

That's why I'm a HUGE advocate for simplistic teaching and lesson planning. As a mom, I just don’t have the luxury of having time to prep cute materials and resources before lessons. So I created the NO PRINTOUT PLAYBOOK: a game-changing solution designed to streamline your teaching process. This downloadable PDF booklet is a treasure trove of minimal-prep games that inject a breath of fresh air into your lessons, covering key concepts like note reading, rhythm, and music theory.

NYM has also partnered with My Music Staff to help the busy piano teacher cut back on time spent on admin tasks, and refocus their efforts on what matters most: their family and their students! MMS has generously offered a 60 DAY FREE TRIAL if you sign up here.

In the ever-evolving landscape of piano education, it's all too easy to get lost in the sea of resources and teaching methodologies. The allure of endless materials and intricate lesson plans might seem tempting, but the key of a successful and happy studio lies in embracing simplicity. As you continue to navigate the dynamic realm of piano education, remember that less can often be more.

As Always, Stay Tuned!
