12 Fun Piano Songs to Help Your Student Feel Successful
In my experience, most students hit a plateau at some point. Whether they get bored with their books, or the excitement of piano lessons wear off, their progress and enthusiasm seem to slow down.
This is where fun piano songs, or supplemental material, can be incredibly useful in motivating them to continue progressing.
When this happens, there are plenty of options you can take with the student. This is a great opportunity to try out some new games in your lessons, introduce an incentive (I like to use Musician Money, more on that at a later post!). Or for the purposes of this specific post, incorporate a "fun song" that connects with the student and reignites that excitement for playing.
How to Choose a Fun Piano Song
Each student will have their own definition of what a "fun song" actually is. My gamer students do not want to play A Tale as Old as Time from Disney's Beauty and the Beast, but that song is a hit for my young female students.
It's important to get to know your student for this reason! Ask them questions, find out their hobbies, connect with them on a personal level so you can introduce fun songs that will fulfill its purpose.
Fun songs can be pulled from a variety of genres. Sometimes familiar classical pieces do the job, Disney songs as I mentioned can be the secret, theme songs from movies or video games are also popular among many students. Pop songs, old time classics, holiday songs, you name it!

Meet the Student Where They Are
When selecting a "fun song", it's important that you also choose the right difficulty. From my own trial and error, I have picked songs in the past that are a little too technical for where the student is currently at.
This turns the fun song into...well, not very fun anymore.
If there is a song a student is DYING to play, but I just can't find a simple enough version, I create it! (MuseHub actually offers a great program for composing.)
I hope you find some new fun song gems in this post!
As always, stay tuned!
